Coat Drive for Foster Kids (Charity Donations)
Location: Sleep Train
Because many foster kids arrive at their new homes with only the clothes on their backs, Sleep Train is holding its annual Coat Drive for Foster Kids, which will help keep the more than 80,000 foster children in California warm during the winter months. New coats in every shape and size can be donated at any Sleep Train store and will be distributed among 19 California foster care partner organizations. The GreenHouse Community Center is looking for individuals like you to volunteer as a Study Buddy for Evergreen and R4 after-school programs. Study Buddies are paired with a small group of students to help them with homework and build a mentoring relationship with them. Study Buddies are asked to commit 2 hours per week for at least 6 months. Evergreen (1st-6th grade) is Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday from 3:00-5:45pm. REQUIREMENTS: Age 16+ for Evergreen and 18+ for R4 Mandatory training [ dates are Sept. 2nd @ 12-1:30pm, Sept 10th @ 5-6:30pm, and the 11th @ 10-11:30am] The GreenHouse is always looking for Guest Speakers who would like to share their special talents with our students.R4 (7th-12th grade) is Tuesday and Thursdays from 3-6:00pm and Saturdays is our field trip day which times will vary. REQUIREMENTS: at least 18 years old or older, mandatory training. Dates are the same except Sept 10th @ 7-8:30pm

Sacramento Latin Music & Arts Festival will take place on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Cesar Chavez Park in Downtown Sacramento, during Hispanic Heritage Month.This celebration will feature great live music, tasty food, dancing, theatre, art, jewelry and so much more. This event has been sanctioned by the Mexican Consulate as the official event of the Mexican Bicentennial – marking 200 years of Mexico’s independence. There will be headline performances by Spirit of Latin Rock and Manzo featuring members of War, Malo and Tower of Power! Locally, Rafael Vargas, Ritmoz Latinoz, Centro and Latin Touch will be performing. This is a family friendly event, so there will be lots of activities for the kids. The Joe and Isabel Serna Family will be presenting a very special award to dignitaries in the Hispanic Community including Cruz Reynoso, Dolores Huerta, Linda Ronstadt and the Royal Chicano Air Force.

Moms R Us Support Group Begins New Year. Moms-R-Us, a mother’s support group for women of all ages who are raising children or grandchildren of all ages invites you to join our supportive group of ladies in learning how to be the best parents we can be. The group meets on Tuesday mornings from 9:30am -11:30am at; Orangevale church of Christ, 5915 Main Avenue in Orangevale.Our first session begins Tuesday September 14, 2010 and continues through May 17, 2011. On Sept.14th we will enjoy a light breakfast, get to know one another and pass out the fall session’s lesson material. Beginning September 21st the group will begin a new video/discussion series by Dr. Tim Kimmel of Family Matters entitled; “Raising Kids Who Turn Out Right, A Practical Strategy for Positive Parenting.” Child care & a Cradle Roll Class are provided for infants up to three years old. A Christian based Preschool program is provided for children 3-5 years old. All free of charge.

The Oak Ave.Church Youth Group is a place where 7th - 12th graders come together to learn God's Word through practical lessons on everyday life. The Youth Group also has a lot of fun on their trips to the snow and to summer camp. Our Youth Group also puts on a breakfast once a month as a fundraiser for their trips and events. Come out and experience the Youth Group on Sundays at 11:00 am and Wednesday nights at 7:00 pm.

DivorceCare (Seminar)

Our current 13 week series begins September 8, 2010. 7-9pm Bayside Woodland’s Singles’ Divorce Care program uses a DVD-based curriculum that has been developed by a national Christian organization. Each week there is a lesson on a particular subject followed by a small group discussion. New coats in every shape and size can be donated at any Sleep Train store and will be distributed among 19 California foster care partner organizations. Halloween Blackout Skate/Canned Food Drive (Charity Donations)

October is National Roller Skating Month, and to celebrate Roller King is hosting a canned food drive to benefit the Placer County Food Bank. The "Blackout Skate" is a family friendly event, and it will run from 7:00-10:00pm on Saturday, October 30th.Skaters will receive free admission with any canned food donation (skate rental is extra).Costumes are welcome as long as you can skate in them!

Moms R Us Support Group Begins New Year. Moms-R-Us, a mother’s support group for women of all ages who are raising children or grandchildren of all ages invites you to join our supportive group of ladies in learning how to be the best parents we can be. The group meets on Tuesday mornings from 9:30am -11:30am at; Orangevale church of Christ, 5915 Main Avenue in Orangevale.Our first session begins Tuesday September 14, 2010 and continues through May 17, 2011. On Sept.14th we will enjoy a light breakfast, get to know one another and pass out the fall session’s lesson material. Beginning September 21st the group will begin a new video/discussion series by Dr. Tim Kimmel of Family Matters entitled; “Raising Kids Who Turn Out Right, A Practical Strategy for Positive Parenting.” Child care & a Cradle Roll Class are provided for infants up to three years old. A Christian based Preschool program is provided for children 3-5 years old. All free of charge.
